President Tinubu Commissions Abuja’s Transit Way N2, Declares Era of Abandoned Projects Over

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned the newly completed Transit Way N2 Corridor, a major road infrastructure linking Abuja’s Central Business District to Wuse through two modern bridges, describing the project as evidence that the Federal Capital Territory is entering a new era of timely infrastructure delivery.

The commissioning formed part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the third year of the Renewed Hope Administration.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Tinubu described the corridor as “an economic artery” designed to reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion, and stimulate commercial activities across Nigeria’s capital.

Reflecting on the mandate given to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike at the beginning of his administration, the President said the objective was straightforward: restore Abuja’s master plan through visible and measurable development.

According to him, the Renewed Hope Agenda was intended to be reflected in projects that citizens can experience firsthand rather than remain a political slogan.

The President praised the minister for delivering key infrastructure projects across the capital, saying the administration has moved away from the era when public projects were abandoned after contract awards.

“Abuja is no longer a city of abandoned projects,” President Tinubu declared. “If we sign a contract, we fund it, monitor it, and commission it.”

He added that the administration intends to replicate similar infrastructure development across the country through investments in roads, bridges and rail transportation.

Wike Credits Financial Reforms for Infrastructure Delivery
Speaking during the commissioning, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike attributed the rapid pace of infrastructure development to President Tinubu’s decision to remove the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

He explained that the policy change now allows the administration to obtain financing from commercial banks by leveraging its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) as collateral.

According to the minister, the previous TSA arrangement restricted access to commercial financing because FCT funds were maintained solely with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“The infrastructure revolution everyone is talking about was initiated by Mr. President,” Wike said, noting that the financial flexibility has significantly improved project execution.

The minister also disclosed that he had initially doubted the contractor’s ability to complete the project within schedule after observing slow progress earlier this year.

However, following renewed commitments and accelerated construction, he approved the road for commissioning after subsequent inspections confirmed substantial progress.

Road Designed for Future Rail Expansion
Providing the technical overview, Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, said the Transit Way N2 contract was awarded to Levant Construction Limited in October 2025.

He explained that the dual-carriage transit corridor includes:

Two modern bridges

Dedicated median for future rail development

Solar-powered street lighting

Pedestrian walkways

Comprehensive drainage infrastructure

Dauda described the project as the first major realization of Abuja’s long-planned transit corridor system intended to integrate road and future rail transportation while connecting the city centre with surrounding districts and satellite towns.

Contractor Highlights Nine-Month Delivery
Managing Director of Levant Construction Limited, Mr. Elie Tannous, said completing the project within nine months initially appeared almost impossible.

He credited the FCT Administration’s supervision and support for enabling the company to deliver the project within schedule.

According to Tannous, provisions have already been incorporated into the design for future metro rail development and expansion of the corridor as Abuja continues to grow.

Minister of State Hails Milestone
FCT Minister of State Mariya Mahmoud described the commissioning as another significant milestone in Abuja’s ongoing transformation.

She said the road represents not only the completion of infrastructure but also the fulfillment of promises made to residents under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

As Abuja marks five decades as Nigeria’s capital, the Transit Way N2 adds to a growing list of infrastructure projects aimed at improving mobility, reducing congestion, and supporting the city’s long-term urban development.
