Prioritising Self-Care… Finding Balance

Spending over three weeks in the village was an intense yet fulfilling experience. Between supervising Dad’s farm, fixing the house, and managing countless tasks, my hands were full. As much as I cherished the purpose and connection to my roots, the hustle left me utterly drained.

Returning to the city, I was faced with the weight of exhaustion. My body craved rest, yet my mind was already ticking off things to do. It was at this moment I realised the need to prioritise my own well-being. With that resolve, I decided to visit a spa—a place I hadn’t made time for in ages.

Initially, I considered opting for a less expensive package, reminding myself of other pressing financial obligations, like car repairs. But as I stood there deliberating, it dawned on me that how could I expect to tackle life’s challenges if I wasn’t in the best shape, physically and mentally? With this mindset, I chose the premium package—a luxurious treat I rarely allowed myself.

The experience was worth every penny. From a pedicure to full-body steaming, body polish, massage, and a lavish 25k gold facial, every moment was indulgent. It was more than just a spa treatment; it was a reminder of the importance of self-care.

By the time I got home, I was so relaxed that sleep enveloped me completely. Though I intended to write, my body won the battle, demanding the rest it deserved. The next morning, I woke up rejuvenated, greeting the day with a warm cup of oolong tea and a renewed perspective.

This experience reinforced a powerful lesson: we cannot pour from an empty cup. As women, we often prioritise the needs of others—family, work, or community—while sidelining our own. Yet, to truly thrive and give our best, self-care must take center stage.

It’s not selfish to pause and pamper yourself. Whether it’s a spa day, a quiet moment with a favorite book, or even just a long, uninterrupted nap, taking time for yourself is essential.

Let this be a reminder to us all: balance is key. Life is not just about work and responsibilities; it’s about nurturing our mind, body, and soul. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, remember to invest in yourself. You are worth it.

Let’s make self-care a priority, not an afterthought.
