In Abuja, a new chapter in international cooperation is unfolding. The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has signaled the FCT Administration’s readiness to strengthen economic ties with Turkey, with particular interest in Istanbul — the historic city where Europe and Asia meet.
The Minister shared this vision on Monday, November 17, 2025, during a courtesy visit from the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy. Their meeting highlighted not just diplomacy, but a growing partnership rooted in trade, mobility, and shared opportunity.
Wike acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Turkey, noting that many Turkish citizens already play active roles in Abuja’s business landscape. He assured the envoy that the FCT remains committed to providing a safe and enabling environment for legitimate businesses to thrive.
“I would like to see how we can partner with Istanbul to improve our economic relations,” he said. “We want your citizens to do business here without fear or hindrance. The Nigeria–Turkey relationship has been cordial and productive, and we intend to strengthen it further.”
He encouraged the Ambassador to identify specific areas where collaboration with the FCT could yield tangible benefits, adding that the Administration is open to initiatives that promote mutual economic growth.
Wike also commended the Turkish Embassy for easing visa procedures for Nigerians, describing the gesture as a boost to business travel and trade.
Ambassador Poroy, in his remarks, emphasized that economic cooperation remains one of the strongest pillars of Nigeria–Turkey relations. He noted that simplifying visa access was a deliberate step toward fostering closer ties between business communities in both countries.
He expressed appreciation to the FCT Minister and the institutions under his leadership for their continued support to the diplomatic corps and residents of Abuja.
As Abuja and Istanbul explore deeper connections, the conversation signals renewed possibilities — not just between two cities, but between two nations with expanding horizons.
