This morning the weather was cool and beautiful. The soft breeze and quiet calm of the morning carried a feeling of peace that is sometimes rare in our busy adult lives. Perhaps the feeling was stronger because of the bridal shower we celebrated last night for my childhood friend.
Seeing her surrounded by friends, laughter, and love stirred something deep in my heart. It reminded me of how far life has taken us from the simple days of childhood.
There was a time when life felt easy and carefree. As children, we had no real worries. Our biggest concerns were small things — wanting a sweet treat, asking for new clothes, or crying when something did not go our way. We depended completely on our parents, trusting that they would take care of everything.
Childhood had its own little dramas. We cried, we laughed, we sometimes threw tantrums when we did not get what we wanted. There were moments of naughtiness, moments of stubbornness, and moments of pure innocence. Yet behind all of that was a sense of security — the comforting knowledge that someone was always there to guide us and provide for us.
This morning’s gentle weather made those memories come alive again.
But adulthood is a very different journey.
As adults, the responsibilities of life slowly replace the carefree moments of childhood. We wake up each day carrying responsibilities — work, family, decisions, and the many uncertainties that life presents. The safety net of childhood fades, and we begin to stand on our own.
In adulthood, we learn that life requires strength, patience, and faith. There are moments when we must depend on our own wisdom, and there are moments when we must simply trust God to guide our steps.
Watching my childhood friend celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in her life reminded me of how time moves forward. The little girls who once played together, laughed together, and dreamed about the future are now women stepping into new responsibilities, new families, and new roles in society.
Life truly moves in seasons.
There is a season for carefree childhood, a season for growth and discovery, and a season for responsibility and purpose. Each season carries its own beauty, even if it comes with new challenges.
As the cool morning breeze continued to blow, I found myself feeling grateful — grateful for the memories of childhood, grateful for the journey of adulthood, and grateful for the friendships that grow with us through the years.
Perhaps adulthood may not always feel as simple as childhood once did. But it carries something just as meaningful: the chance to build lives, nurture relationships, and walk forward with faith.
And sometimes, on a quiet morning like this, the past gently reminds us how far we have come.
