President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his progressive governance approach, which has led to significant improvements in the lives of FCT residents. The President made this statement while receiving a delegation of FCT residents at the Presidential Villa on Sunday, March 30, 2025, as part of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Reflecting on the reforms in the FCT administration, President Tinubu acknowledged Wike’s efforts in restructuring the bureaucracy for efficiency. He praised the minister’s initiative in securing an independent civil service commission for the FCT, which has facilitated career growth and development within the system.
“When we started, he (Wike) came up with a lot of good ideas to liberate the bureaucracy, introduce progressive policies, and provide opportunities for many who would have otherwise been hindered. His approach has led to rapid transformation, including infrastructural development, improved healthcare facilities, and enhanced education systems.” Tinubu said.
The President noted that granting financial autonomy to the FCT allowed for more developmental projects, including rural expansion and the completion of long-abandoned projects such as the Vice President’s residence. He expressed appreciation for the strides made in upgrading hospitals and schools, which have improved the quality of life for FCT residents.
Unity and National Development
Speaking on national unity, President Tinubu urged Nigerians to embrace diversity and work together towards a prosperous nation. He commended Wike’s ability to harness diversity for good governance, stating:
“Our people are looking for results, comfort, and good governance. Wike has demonstrated that leadership is about inclusivity and national interest. Nigeria is a family, and though we may live in different rooms, we belong to one home and must build it together.”
He further encouraged citizens to support one another, particularly the less privileged, emphasizing that lessons from Ramadan should translate into compassion and shared responsibility.
“We must continue to show tolerance, share with those in need, and remember the orphans, widows, and the underprivileged. A prosperous nation is built on the collective goodwill of its people.” He stated.
FCT Minister’s Response
In his remarks, Minister Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support and leadership, particularly in granting administrative autonomy to the FCT, which has enhanced efficiency. He reaffirmed the loyalty of FCT residents to the Renewed Hope Agenda and pledged continued collaboration to ensure the administration’s success.
“Mr. President, the delegation before you today represents the rich diversity of the FCT, including religious, political, and traditional leaders, security officials, media representatives, and everyday residents. Despite our different backgrounds, we stand united in our unwavering support for your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda.” Wike said.
He also highlighted the impact of the President’s support during the first anniversary of his administration, recalling Tinubu’s physical commissioning of five out of the nine completed projects at the time. Looking ahead, Wike expressed enthusiasm about upcoming projects slated for commissioning during the administration’s second anniversary and the anticipated presence of the President at the events.
Presentation of Sallah Card
As a gesture of goodwill, Minister Wike, joined by Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, presented President Tinubu with a giant Sallah card to commemorate the festive occasion.
