Men and Women are Inherently Equal

Mr Desmond Osalobo Osemhenjie is a passionate advocate for women’s participation and equality. Reflecting on his extraordinary journey, which spans over two decades, he speaks with deep conviction in this interview.

Driven by a strong belief in the critical importance of gender equality for economic growth, family well-being, and societal progress, Osalobo has dedicated his life to this cause. His belief that men and women are inherently equal has been the cornerstone of his career.

Curious about his dedication, I asked him if he was just doing his job or if he truly believes in what he advocates. He responded by saying “I am passionate and genuinely working and supporting women’s participation due to many reasons. For economic development,  for family development and growth, and for human development, freedom and liberty. Whether man or woman we are all created the same he explains.
He went on further to say that he has  been involved since 2001 and  has had no time of regret since then, ” I am very happy doing the work, the journey has been very good. But not without challenges”
Speaking on the future of women’s rights in Nigeria, He says “there is hope, great hope, particularly now that women are getting educated and exposed like men. Gender equality is just a strategy that will phase away over time. The reality is that men and women equality will be a way of life.
Taking us through his journey,he says
” I joined the Ministry of Women Affairs in 2001 and that was the mandate of the Agency. Later  I developed passion  and interest due to my educational background and family up bringing. I was born and brought up in a very free environment and needed to support women and men who are not fortunate like me”
“As a man I have experienced several challenges. I have also been discriminated against in posting and benefits. But the passion always overwhelmed the challenges”
When  ask to share any success stories or moments that have reinforced his  commitment to women’s rights? He says
“I have many stories, but one of my favorites is about economic empowerment for rural women through the provision of identity cards for women entrepreneurs in Kaduna State. These women, who previously suffered greatly at the hands of robbers, can now conduct their businesses without fear.”
