Infrastructure Development: FCTA Plans Water Supply for Abuja Satellite Towns

— Wike inspects key projects ahead of President Tinubu’s 2nd anniversary celebrations

As part of renewed efforts to boost infrastructure and improve residents’ living conditions, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to extend water supply to Abuja’s satellite towns, beginning with Bwari, Karu, and parts of Kubwa.

FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, made this known during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the Abuja city center. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for inclusive development across the capital territory.

“Mr. President said we must also provide water within the satellite towns. So, we are starting with Bwari, Karu, and parts of Kubwa,” the Minister stated.

He explained that the satellite town water project has been captured in both the national and FCT statutory budgets. The project is currently at the procurement stage with the Bureau of Public Procurement, and will be executed by CGC, the company also handling the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project.

Wike recalled his recent investment-driven trip to China, where he signed MOUs with Chinese firms to facilitate infrastructure development, particularly in the water sector.

Updates on Key Projects: ICC Renovation, Arterial Road N5 Near Completion

As part of preparations to mark President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office, Wike also visited the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) and the Arterial Road N5 project from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III—both scheduled for commissioning during the celebrations.

“I want to commend Julius Berger for the quality job done at the ICC. It’s what Abuja deserves. Mr. President directed that everything must be done to bring it to a standard that Nigerians will be proud of,” Wike said.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the level of progress on both projects and appreciated the contractor’s commitment to delivering on schedule.

Education and Health Infrastructure Also in Focus

Wike further revealed that the FCT’s proposed N1.7 trillion 2025 statutory budget is heavily focused on capital projects, with a strong emphasis on education and healthcare. According to him, over 85% of the budget will go into completing ongoing projects.

“Education alone has nothing less than N140 billion in capital projects. When we talk about projects, it’s not just about roads. Schools are being renovated, and health facilities are also part of the plan,” he noted.

No New Projects, Just Completion and Continuity

Reiterating the administration’s focus on accountability, Wike said the priority is to complete existing projects rather than award new ones.

“We are not here to say we awarded this or that. Our intention is to continue with what we saw. Government is a continuum. It’s public funds, and we will complete them. That’s the spirit of the Renewed Hope Agenda—bringing back hopes that were lost.”
