Burkina Faso Opens Its Doors to All Africans with Free Entry Visas

Burkina Faso has announced a major step toward continental unity, making entry free for all African nationals. Ouagadougou says visa fees are now waived for citizens across Africa, with only one requirement: visitors must complete an online application form and receive approval before traveling.

Previously, a tourist visa to Burkina Faso cost nearly $100 (55,000 CFA francs), while a business visa was priced at about $165 (93,500 CFA francs).

The country’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, explained that the decision is part of interim president Ibrahim Traoré’s pan-Africanist vision to strengthen historic bonds of brotherhood across the continent. He noted that the measure is also designed to boost tourism, showcase Burkinabe culture, and enhance the nation’s visibility internationally.

However, Sana clarified that “free does not mean exempt.” Africans will no longer pay visa fees, but a valid visa is still required for entry.
